The Hygger Mini Air Pump for Aquarium is a fantastic small air pump suitable for aquariums up to a 40 gallon breeder tank. While not the quietest air pump in the entire world, it will get the job done without breaking the bank.

TEXT
There's no disputing that aquarium air pumps are not the most interesting topic in the world when it comes to the fishkeeping hobby. In fact, most people don't really consider the topic at all, at least until they get around to finally setting up their tank.
Air pumps are a vital piece of equipment for any tank that does not feature a strong pump constantly breaking the water surface to allow for the exchange of gasses, including oxygen. Without that more natural exchange, you will need to add an air pump to give you fish oxygen. Fish technically breathe oxygen--they just get it out of the water instead of out of the air.
Without adding oxygen to the water, your fish will die.
The Hygger Mini Air Pump: Perfect for Small Tanks
The Hygger Air Pump comes with everything you see pictured above: the main air pump, the air stone (the rough looking white thing), the check valve (the clear and red device), and enough air tubing to get you started. You can hook up the check valve and air tubing to a sponge filter instead, if that's more your speed, but the air stone works out of the box if you don't need the additional filtration of a sponge filter.
While not the quietest air pump on the market, it is quiet enough to get the job done, especially if you can place the pump inside a cabinet. Again, this is not the luxury option for an air pump, and the price tag reflects that. However, that's not to say it's not a great little air pump, because it really is.
I am currently using this air pump on our quarantine system for my reef tank, and I will supplement this review with my experiences: the good, the bad, and (hopefully not) the ugly.
As for now, we fully recommend the Hygger Air Pump to our budget-conscious readers. It does what it needs to do right out of the box, which is all you can ask for or need for something as bland as an air pump.
